Professor and Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology Lab at Pennington Biomedical

BIO:
Leanne M Redman, PhD, is an expert in human physiology and endocrinology as it relates to the quantification of energy balance, in both controlled and free-living conditions in humans. Dr Redman is currently an Professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center within the LSU System and Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Women's Health Research Program. Dr. Redman holds adjunct appointments with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical School, LSUHSC in New Orleans and Department of Biological Sciences, LSU.

Dr. Redman holds a Ph.D in Physiology and OBGYN from the University of Adelaide in Australia and completed 4 years of post-doctoral training in the USA at Ohio University and Pennington Biomedical Research Center.

Dr Redman's research program focuses on how lifestyle, in particular diet and physical activity influences body composition and energy metabolism. Dr Redman is a recent recipient of 2 grants funded by the National Institutes of Health. One project will help to understand why body weight and insulin resistance are linked to ovulation and infertility women with polycystic ovary syndrome. The second project will help pregnant women to gain the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy and to understand how the pregnancy pounds affect mom and baby. Dr Redman is a scientific co-investigator several studies involving exercise, weight loss, weight management or management of insulin resistance in women including a study in women with gestational diabetes. Her work is at the forefront of developing and testing e-health technologies for delivery of lifestyle interventions and fostering compliance of individuals in research studies.

Her work has produced more that 150 research articles on diet, exercise and body composition.

The mission of the City Club’s Distinguished Speaker Series is to provide professionals of all career levels opportunities to socialize, learn, and strengthen their professional networks.

The City Club’s Distinguished Speaker Series features distinguished top executives, government officials, academic professionals and locally/nationally recognized speakers who will share their experiences and insights in order to inspire and ignite the City Club community. This speaker series incorporates a unique blend of presentation and interactive dialogues. In this way, it offers members and their guests of the City Club community the opportunity to interact and engage with remarkable individuals who have made an impact.

Following a discussion, time will be allotted for questions from the audience. At the culmination of the program, an opportunity for networking will be provided. All events may be recorded for future viewing.
